This 50-bed acute care hospital gives the Infection Control Nurse clear visibility across the continuum while maintaining a close-knit, collaborative environment. Modern isolation-capable rooms, negative-pressure capability, and centralized supply workflows streamline evidence-based precautions. An on-site laboratory, pharmacy support, and interoperable EMR accelerate specimen routing, antibiogram trend review, and timely interventions. The Infection Prevention RN partners with perioperative, emergency, and medical-surgical leaders to standardize bundles and elevate outcomes. Right-sized census volumes enable meaningful rounding, coaching, and teaching that stick.
Reporting to the Nurse Manager and collaborating with the Infection Control Committee and Medical Staff, the Infection Preventionist RN operates with the authority necessary to safeguard patients, staff, and visitors. Daily support includes friendly nurses, a diverse team of providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, environmental services, and quality experts aligned to shared goals. Core responsibilities span surveillance data analysis, policy development, isolation and sterilization practices, staff education, and NHSN reporting in accordance with CDC, OSHA, and APIC guidance. The Infection Control Nurse also coordinates cross-department drills, mentors champions on every unit, and advances a just-culture approach to hand hygiene and device care. Leadership remains accessible, rounding regularly and backing the Infection Prevention & Control Registered Nurse with resources to implement rapid-change initiatives.
