The Registered Nursing First Assist (RNFA) delivers expert perioperative care in a fast-paced operating room or ambulatory surgery setting, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia, and the surgical team to optimize safety and outcomes. Daily responsibilities include preoperative patient assessment, consent and site verification, OR and instrument readiness, positioning, prepping and draping, and strict sterile technique; first-assist duties such as tissue handling, exposure and retraction, hemostasis, electrocautery, suturing, stapling, and wound closure; accurate counts, specimen management, and equipment troubleshooting; comprehensive intraoperative documentation in the EHR, postoperative handoff and patient education, and adherence to infection prevention, quality, and safety protocols. This role supports a range of specialties (general surgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular, OB/GYN, and more) while delivering patient-centered, evidence-based care and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
What's Needed to Succeed:
- Degree from an accredited Nursing Program
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse RN in the state of Illinois or ability to obtain upon hire
- Certified as a Registered Nurse First Assist RNFA
