Medical Surgical Nurse
Discover your next chapter as a RN Med Surg in an advanced acute care environment alongside a collaborative interdisciplinary team, leveraging modern patient care technology with comprehensive RN support and clear career growth opportunities in a leading community hospital.
This opportunity is ideal for a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse who values strong leadership, steady staffing, and a culture that trusts nurses to practice at the top of their license. The healthcare organization invests in thorough onboarding, practical preceptorship, and ongoing mentorship so you can contribute confidently from day one and keep building your skills for the long run. You can expect approachable unit leaders, transparent communication, and a workplace where your voice matters, whether you’re optimizing patient flow, standardizing best practices, or shaping your professional development path.
On the Medical Surgical Unit—also known as Med Surg, Acute Care, Inpatient Services, or the General Medical Unit—you’ll care for a diverse adult population with a wide range of medical and post-surgical conditions. As an RN Med Surg, your day-to-day will balance autonomy with team-based support: managing 12-hour shifts with efficient bedside handoffs, using evidence-based protocols, coordinating discharges, and engaging families in the plan of care. The practice environment blends an advanced acute care environment and modern patient care technology with practical tools that streamline documentation and communication, freeing you to focus on clinical decision-making and patient education. You’ll collaborate closely with hospitalists, surgeons, case management, PT/OT, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and a responsive charge/resource model, with techs/ CNAs providing essential support. Scheduling offers flexibility relative to days or nights, weekend rotations, and holiday commitments that are shared fairly, and you’ll have the latitude to practice with meaningful autonomy while still benefiting from a tight-knit, collaborative interdisciplinary team. Expect comprehensive RN support—from clinical educators and preceptors to access to specialty certifications—and real career growth opportunities in a leading community hospital, whether your interests trend toward leadership, education, or specialty practice. A Med Surg RN who thrives in fast-paced, coordinated care will find this unit both challenging and highly rewarding.
In this role, you’ll report to a seasoned Medical Surgical Nurse Manager and work closely with a charge nurse who helps balance assignments and acuity throughout the shift. The team dynamic emphasizes respectful, two-way communication with physicians and advanced practice providers, while case managers and social workers partner with you early in the stay to streamline safe transitions. Primary responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, clinical prioritization, medication management, wound and drain care, telemetry monitoring as appropriate, patient education, and participation in rapid response protocols. You’ll also contribute to shared governance initiatives, support new staff as a preceptor when ready, and liaise with ancillary departments to keep care plans moving efficiently and safely.
