In a roughly 350-bed, Joint Commission–accredited setting, the Hospital Histotechnologist/Histotechnician joins a CAP-accredited laboratory with Magnet-recognized nursing and modern automation and will benefit from strong clinical standards, efficient workflows, and a culture focused on quality and safety.

The Hospital Histotechnologist/Histotechnician reports to the Histology/Anatomic Pathology Supervisor with support from the Laboratory Director and Medical Director of Pathology. The role collaborates closely with Pathologists, Pathologists’ Assistants, Cytology, Surgical Services, and Specimen Processing, and may precept new team members.

Within a steady, supportive histology section, the Hospital Histotechnologist/Histotechnician works across biopsies and resections, producing slides for H&E, special stains, and IHC and will use validated protocols and well-maintained tissue processors, microtomes, and IHC platforms alongside experienced peers and engaged physicians 🧪.

Day to day, the Hospital Histotechnologist/Histotechnician performs embedding, microtomy, daily H&E review, special stains, IHC with control verification, and frozen sections as needed, while documenting QC, temperatures, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Additionally, the position maintains accurate LIS workflows (including Meditech), supports proficiency testing and inventory, and contributes to CAP readiness and process improvement. A current NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Technician license (or NYS PA license) is required; ASCP and prior hospital histology experience are preferred.
