As a member of a nimble community hospital, the Emergency Acute Care Nurse provides care to patients across the lifespan in a fast-moving, high-acuity setting. The ED Nurse partners with hospitalists, respiratory therapy, laboratory, and imaging teams, with quick access to tele-specialists and air medical transport when escalation is needed. Through thoughtfully developed workflows, point-of-care testing, and efficient transfer protocols, the ER Registered Nurse remains focused on stabilization and timely care coordination. A close-knit, cross-trained team keeps the Acute Care RN role both flexible and well-supported.
Reporting to a Emergency Services Charge Nurse, the Emergency Acute Care Nurse receives support from engaged charge nurses, clinical educators, and a diverse, welcoming interprofessional team. Collaborative rounding with physicians and APPs, prompt access to pharmacy and respiratory care, and proactive staffing practices promote safe, compassionate care. Key responsibilities for the Emergency Department RN include rapid triage, thorough head-to-toe assessment, hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring with dysrhythmia recognition, medication safety in accordance with the seven rights, and accurate documentation. The ER Nurse also guides pain assessment and management, initiates IV therapies and fluids, completes and interprets waived testing, and promotes a just culture focused on safety and quality.
