In partnership with senior executives, the Labor & Delivery Director will shape the maternal-child roadmap spearheading capital initiatives, service-line growth, operational redesign, pricing strategy, and market positioning. They will elevate intrapartum pathways such as VBAC preparedness, smart induction management, rapid triage optimization, and robust obstetric emergency response, aligning resources to community needs and organizational priorities.
Situated within a 300+ bed nonprofit hospital, this role oversees seven thoughtfully designed LDRP birthing suites that enable couplet care and smooth transitions from admission through recovery. The RN Director, Labor & Delivery is accountable for triage, antepartum and intrapartum services, immediate postpartum care, close coordination with the newborn nursery, and lactation support rooted in Baby-Friendly practices. Safety is reinforced by advanced fetal monitoring, wireless telemetry, standardized hemorrhage and hypertension bundles, and tightly integrated perinatal resources—delivering a seamless experience from first assessment to discharge.
Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, the RN Director, Labor & Delivery leads a cohesive team of nurse leaders, lactation experts, and a multidisciplinary group that includes obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and allied professionals. This position carries 24/7 responsibility for operations, staffing and scheduling, fiscal oversight and materials management, patient flow, experience, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Acting as a vital liaison among physician leadership, administration, patients, and frontline teams, the Director advances shared governance and clinical excellence. The portfolio includes strategic planning, performance improvement, policy development, survey readiness, staff engagement, professional development, succession planning, and direct oversight of L&D OR/Cesarean workflows and PACU/recovery integration.
