Director, Acute Care Pharmacy

The Director, Acute Care Pharmacy leads all inpatient pharmacy operations and clinical services in a hospital setting, driving safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication use across emergency, ICU, surgical, and med-surg units. Daily responsibilities include overseeing central and satellite pharmacy workflows, staffing and scheduling, sterile compounding and hazardous drug management (USP 797/800), and medication safety initiatives with real-time KPI monitoring and adverse event review; partnering with physicians and nursing on multidisciplinary rounds, medication reconciliation, and transitions of care; managing formulary and the Pharmacy & Therapeutics process, antimicrobial stewardship, pain and sedation protocols, and evidence-based guidelines; ensuring regulatory compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, and state board standards; optimizing pharmacy technology and automation (EMR/CPOE, BCMA, ADCs, IV workflow) and leading continuous quality improvement and audit readiness; overseeing budget, inventory, and 340B program integrity, contracting, and cost-containment strategies; and building a high-performing team through recruitment, onboarding, competencies, education, and performance development while advancing strategic initiatives that improve patient outcomes and hospital quality metrics.

What's Needed to Succeed:

  • Degree from an accredited pharmacy program
  • Licensed as a clinical Pharmacist in the state of Maryland or ability to obtain
  • Progressive leadership experience in an acute care setting
