This respected cancer center on California’s Central Coast is actively interviewing for RN Staff Nurses to work in an award-winning Surgical Oncology Service Line. Enjoy the great work – life balance that comes with working in a clinic-based environment, and join an established and compassionate team of nursing professionals.
After a recent remodel and expansion of this well-regarded community Oncology Center, multiple clinics and service lines have been combined under a single roof. The Surgical Oncology Staff Nurse will join an organization that’s earned local and national acclaim for its commitment to nurturing a holistic continuum of care. With services ranging from infusion and radiation oncology, to nuclear medicine and surgical services, this cancer center continues to push the boundaries of modern oncology patient care.
Reporting to the Clinical Operations Nursing Manager, and working closely with a Breast Cancer Surgical Specialist Physician, the Surgical Oncology RN will take a clinical role in the cancer care services department and an administrative support position outside. Working with an outstanding patient care services team, the Staff RN will get great opportunities to learn from experienced experts across reporting and organizational boundaries.
The Staff Oncology RN will play an important role in providing patient care within the various clinical service lines, but will have the largest impact on post-surgical oncology patients. This clinic focuses on the surgical management of breast cancer, usually through the diagnosis and removal of tumors and masses. Many of these patients are actively undergoing multiple forms of oncology care, including both Radiation Therapy and Infusion. This can make the population particularly fragile, and the treatments particularly complex.
The Staff Nurse will support the day-to-day clinical and patient operations of the Surgical Oncology Department. The Nurse will take responsibility for patient assessment and history review, working with the Breast Cancer Physician Specialist, as well as the patient's family to develop a clear path of care. This person will assist in minor surgical procedures, serve as a post operative resource for wound care, and as a pre-operative patient educator on the procedures performed. This means that strong clinical skills in post surgical care, particularly skills found in medical surgical units, will be a great help for the Oncology RN's success. Working under unit leadership, and in close collaboration with the attending surgeon / physician, the Nurse will help formulate a care plan and execute on that plan.
It’s well known that California’s Central Coast has something for every walk of life, that’s why few people leave once they discover it. A short drive south and the Oncology Staff RN will be close to the lights, excitement, and entertainment of the Greater Los Angeles Area. A trip north, and you’ll be in historic San Francisco or technology rich Silicon Valley. Just over the coastal mountain range, you’ll find California’s ‘bread basket’. Stay in the neighborhood and you’ll see a budding wine industry and some of the most beautiful weather California has to offer.
This position comes with full accountability and the knowledge that you’re making a tangible difference in the lives of cancer patients in California’s Central Coast. The Oncology Staff RN will also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including PTO and 403b, and a competitive compensation.
