This 400-bed acute care hospital is located in the greater New York area, recognized for their medical surgical, cardiac ICU, behavioral health and onsite emergency department. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development will oversee the clinical education department, including the nurse educators and ancillary staff. The Director of Nursing Education will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including the CMO, Unit Directors, physicians, system educators, and specialists, to develop educational initiatives, ensure best practices and techniques used are up to date, and integrate evidence-based practices and standards. Other responsibilities of the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development may include will ensuring state and federal compliance, updating policy procedures, evaluating goals, implementing quality improvement initiatives, developing strategic long term and short term growth plans for the department, researching best practices being used in the market, managing department budget, preparing all survey and accreditation material, assisting with the residency program, and oversee new-hire orientation and preceptor program.
The Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development will be master’s prepared, have previous educational leadership experience and be a current registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant with a recent clinical background and strong technical skills. In addition, the Director of Nursing Education must be up to date on evidence-based best practice and integrating and utilizing the most advanced technology and techniques. The Director of Nursing Education will have an overall understanding of the healthcare industry; recognizing potential trends while understanding how to mitigate risks and uncertainties that may arise. Additionally, the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development will be a multitasker, strategic thinker, and work well with others.
