Joining the critical care team, the Clinical Nurse Director Surgical ICU will report to the Administrative Director and oversee the high-acuity Surgical Intensive Care Unit. With the support of clinical managers, educators, specialized registered nurses, technicians, and ancillary staff, the Clinical RN Director Surgical ICU will be accountable for all clinical and administrative responsibilities of the SICU department, including managing the budget, overseeing operational workflow, ensuring state and regulatory compliance, preparing all accreditation and survey material, implementing quality performance improvement initiatives, assisting with ongoing educational programing, and cross collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Since the Surgical ICU Clinical RN Director will oversee a high-acuity SICU unit that is always at capacity/full with primarily trauma and transplant patients, the Clinical Nurse Director must have extensive Surgical Intensive Care Unit or Intensive Care Unit experience. The Clinical Nurse Director will also hold an active RN license with prior clinical leadership experience working as a Director, Nurse Manager, Nurse Educator, or Assistant Nurse Manager. A successful Clinical Nurse Director Surgical ICU understands how to manage a team or unexpected conflicts in a calm, productive manner, able to lead by example, can develop clear goals and initiatives, will meet deadlines, is able to hold themselves and others accountable even in difficult situations, and will strive to be a transparent communicator.
