Under the sponsorship of and in collaboration with the Medical Director for Psychiatric Consultative Services, the Mental Health Unit Nurse Practitioner will provide quality patient care in the acute care medical setting and outpatient venues as assigned within the scope of practice according to the ANCC approved standards.
The Psych Health Unit Nurse Practitioner will provide consultation and patient management as required including psychiatric assessment with special attention to the interaction between mental status and medical conditions, mental status exam, safety assessment, diagnosis and treatment for psychiatric problems.
The Behavioral Health Unit Nurse Practitioner NP will have specific responsibilities including, but are not limited to obtaining the verbal consult request directly from the referring physician, review of records and medications, collection of collateral data, interview and exam of the patient. The Psych Health NP will document findings and make recommendations for additional work-up and appropriate treatments and assures that the referring physician is alerted to the results of the assessment.
The Mental Health Unit Nurse Practitioner must be able to collaborate effectively and positively with the interdisciplinary treatment team in all phases of assessment, planning and treatment and work within the involuntary mental health laws of Washington State. Creative and strategic problem solving is required to provide excellent patient care for the psychiatric needs of individuals in the medical setting.
