With five operating rooms, two Endoscopy suites, a special delivery Cesarean Section OR, and an outpatient surgery department, this hospital performs an array of general surgeries and specialized surgeries. Reporting to the Nurse Director of Perioperative Services, the Assistant Nurse Director Surgical Services will oversee the surgical department, including the operating room, Pre-Admission Testing Area (PAT), Post-Acute Care Unit (PACU), and the Central Sterile Processing team. With clinical and administrative responsibilities, the Assistant Nurse Director will ensure the department adheres to state, federal, and hospital policy procedures, regulatory compliance, and best practices, monitor department budgets, scheduling, and implement quality performance improvement initiatives. As the department resource, the Assistant Nurse Director will assist with new-hire orientation, offer continuing education programs for new-hire and current department staff, and be up to date on industry best practices and procedures.
Ideally, the Assistant Nurse Director Surgical Services will have a scrubbing and circulating operating room background, be up to date on best practices, and have prior clinical leadership experience. The Assistant Nurse Director Surgical Services hold (or be willing to obtain prior to starting) their North Carolina Registered Nurse license, or their compact RN license; being CNOR certified is a big plus. Additionally, the Assistant Nurse Director Surgical Services will be familiar with patient satisfaction scores, budgets, and understands the importance of quality metrics. The ideal Assistant Nurse Director Surgical Services will be a motivated, critical thinker, excited to develop, introduce, and implement new initiatives and programs, while leading a team of highly specialized registered nurses, technicians, and ancillary staff.
